The Statue's Plaque Reads
Coyote
Canis latrans
Coyotes are one of the top predators of the park. They are efficient hunters and have a varied diet ranging from woodrats to berries. Coyotes are not easily seen, but they can be heard at twilight and throughout the night as they yip and yowl their unforgettable greetings to each other.
While some forms of wildlife have decreased in numbers due to human encroachment, the wily coyote has been able to cope with our influence and actually increase in numbers.
