Windasea Beach may be a smaller and rockier beach than others in San Diego, but it's certainly a very beautiful beach. The beach does have strong shore breaks, in which the surf breaks right at the shoreline. This shore break makes surfing and swimming here quite challenging, and not recommended unless you are very experienced.
This beach is rocky, with patches of sand between the rocky ledges which stretch down to the ocean edge. Because there are several sets of stairs down to the different sandy areas you don't have to do much rock climbing to get to the beach. There is much less of a beach at high tide, so if you don't want to sit on the rocks you might want to check the
tides before you go.
There aren't any amenities at Windansea. No restrooms, showers, or volley ball nets. There is, however, often a lifeguard on duty.
There are a few parking spots, but you mostly have to search for street parking at Windasea.
