On the University Avenue sidewalk in Hillcrest, between 1st Avenue and Park Boulevard, are many granite disks with depicting fossils. These were created as "Fossils Exposed" in 1998 by local artist
Doron Rosenthal. Most of the disks are on the North side of University Avenue, but there are some on the south side. The disks are pink and grey granite, and depict fossils of plants and animals, including many sea creatures.
Being on the sidewalk the little disks tend to get dirty, as you would expect. Some also have gotten a bit of concrete on them when the sidewalks were patched, or have even be moved when their square of sidewalk was replaced.
